Wicked Autumn, by G. M. Malliet

Fantastic start to a new series by the seriously talented cosy mystery writer G. M. Malliet. As much as I hope she will continue the St. Just series, I really enjoyed the detailed Christie-reminiscent village setting of Wicked Autumn.

Death at the Alma Mater, by G. M. Malliet

Another neatly done classic mystery by G.M. Malliet. This one didn't impress me as much as the startlingly good Death of a Cosy Writer, but I'm starting to feel like I can rely on Malliet for a smooth and polished fair-play mystery, and that is wonderful! Great sense of place, at Cambridge.

Death and the Lit Chick, by G.M. Malliet

Fun and clever mystery! I loved Death of a Cosy Writer so much that we're doing it for the mystery book group at the library, so I was really looking forward to this one, which was fantastic. Fair-play mysteries, with a lot of style. Also, i loved the ripping on the stereotypes of the writers, and the phrase "womjep" has to become part of my daily vocabulary- it's for woman-in-jeopardy suspense fiction, like Nora Roberts et al.

Death of a Cozy Writer, by G.M. Malliet

Pretty fantastic kind of tribute-to-the-classics English country house mystery.

One large, ancient English estate, 5 heirs, one surly writer, and murder let rip.

Fantastic stuff- Christie like twists and such, and at the end, it all really did make sense, which is always such a relief.

Not the kind of psychological portraits that Ruth Rendell or even Martha Grimes get up to, and certainly not the humor of Joan Hess or M.C. Beaton, but an almost straight-up drawing room mystery, which I think in some ways is my favorite kind.
